FTP Client

What is an FTP Client

An FTP client is a program typically used by a person to connect to an un-manned computer running an FTP server.
2 FTP clients cannot talk to each other.
A client always talks to a server.
Some FTP clients are very simplistic (in appearance). In fact every windows, MAC and linux computer ships with a command line ftp client.

Other clients are much more user friendly (e.g. cuteFtp) and have nice pretty interfaces that let users point & click and drag & drop. And then there is ftpVortex which is a non-technical person's client that provides a target zone to drop files onto, when dropped they get ftp'd to the target.
Command line ftp clients don't remember any details about the servers they connect to or the usernames and passwords the users have used.

They are still useful tools to have around though as they all pretty much work in the same fashion and they always seem to be there when you need them.
More advanced graphical ftp client programs typically cost money to buy or register.

They are much easier for people to use and the fact that they can be configured to remember settings for the various servers they connect to certainly make them worth the extra money.
